WHAT IS HYDRO JETTING

What is Hydro Jetting

A clogged drain located deeply in the line will likely cause a bigger issue than you think. Blockages in sewer lines and plumbing systems could prevent water and waste from going down the drain. If these issues are taken for granted, it will cause the drain to overflow resulting in sewage backups.  Serious sewer problems may pose a health risk to you and your family and you wouldn’t want this to happen. So what is the best option to do in preventing this to occur? The answer? Hydro Jetting.

What is Hydro Jetting?

Hydro Jetting is an advanced method of cleaning sewer and drain lines. It requires the use of high-tech equipment to clean clogged or slow sewer systems via a continuous blast of water at high pressure that can reach up to 5,000 PSI. The pressurized water that comes from the rotating nozzle will surge into the sewer lines to eliminate hard-to-remove blockages caused by potentially damaging materials including:

  • Grease
  • Mineral scale
  • Debris
  • Tree roots

Can Anyone Perform Hydro Jetting?

The process of hydro jetting can only be carried out by highly trained, professional plumbing contractors Since this process uses high-pressure water, this may cause irreversible damage if used in the wrong way, thus, it should be carefully operated and should not be handled by an inexperienced plumber.

Is Hydro Jetting a Good Option?

There are a lot of advantages that this service offers:

  • It is non-invasive, so no digging is required to fix a clogged pipe.
  • It is safe because this doesn’t use chemicals to get rid of hard-to-remove blockages.
  • It is environmentally friendly since it uses pressurized water to remove clogs.
  • It provides fast relief because it cleans the drain instantly making your drain hassle-free.

How often should you use hydro jetting?

There are factors that you should consider when determining how often you should hydro jet your property.

For restaurants, hotels and other businesses, this should be done once or twice a year. Businesses would typically need the most maintenance because you can expect more build-up being produced in these places.

However, residential areas tend to require less need for this. Small families living in small homes will likely require hydro jetting once every other year.

Another factor to consider when using hydro jetting is the size and condition of the sewer or drain. Old homes have old plumbing systems and sewer lines so more frequent hydro jetting is needed. If you’ve been experiencing problems more frequently, call a professional plumber and have your sewer lines go under sewer inspection to determine if it’s time for your sewer to undergo this process.

Does hydro jetting work on roots?

Hydro jetting is used commonly to clear roots penetrating your sewer lines and plumbing system underground. To prevent your pipes from further damage, this process should be done with extra precautions by hiring a professional and trained plumber to do the job. So how will this process clear your sewer lines from tree roots without damaging your pipes?

  1. Your licensed plumber uses a sophisticated camera to inspect your sewer lines and plumbing pipes prior to the process. This will allow them to search for any damage within the system, such as pipes with cracks, blockages, or collapsed pipes.
  2. Once your plumber finds the exact location of the blockage, a jetting hose is then inserted into the pipelines. The hose is attached to a water tank that can produce pressurized water.
  3. When the high-pressure water starts, the hose goes through the plumbing lines as it cleans the inner walls of the pipe.
  4. Because of the pressurized water, it is hard to remove build-up and other materials including tree roots inside the pipe walls. Gravity will pull down the washed-out debris through the home plumbing system, safely flushing it out to your home.

How much does hydro jetting cost?

At The Pipe Doctor, regular Seattle hydro jetting services range from $250-600 for ordinary jobs.  However, if there is a severe blockage and or root intrusion, there would be difficulty in accessing the pipes and the price can reach as high as $1000 or more. Clogs that are deeper in your sewer line will be more expensive as compared to a clog near the drain. The type of blockage will also affect the cost of hydro jetting because simple debris such as hair and food is easier to remove than tree roots.

  1. I really appreciated it when you noted that hydro jetting does not use toxic chemicals when unclogging a drain. I was worried that the major drain clogging problem I had in my house was so bad that it would require me to use chemical substances to clean it, and I would want to avoid that as much as possible since I have sensitive skin. After reading your article, I’m convinced that I should get a plumber to help me do some drain jetting for my house’s pipes.
